Grace gripped the handrail as she made her way down the stairs. Daire was at the wood burner, tossing another log in. He shut the door and glanced her way.

“Caden asleep?”

“Yeah. Finally. I didn’t think he’d go down.”

“It’s been a long day,” Daire said. He wiped his hands on his jeans.

Grace went to the couch and sank into it. “Tell me about it.” By the time they’d arrived at the cabin and gotten everything cleaned up, gathered wood, and settled in, it was dinnertime. “Where is everyone?”

“Kevin is sleeping. We gave him a tranquilizer to help him sleep. He’s been having a rough go of it. Ethney and Aric are out sweeping the area. They’ll be out most of the night.” Daire sat down next to her.

So, it was just the two of them awake. “Do you think it’s safe here?” she asked. Her gaze drifted to the stairs. Caden was asleep in the first bedroom on the right.

“I’m not going to let anything happen to you or Caden, Grace. You have my word.” Daire reached out and grasped her hand, giving it a squeeze.

She curled her fingers around his palm. He was so warm. His large hand fit so nicely against hers, and she couldn’t help but wonder where else it would fit. Heat rushed through her, and she squirmed.
“Promise me you won’t do anything crazy again like you did today,” Daire said, taking her other hand, too.

What she’d done had been insane. It could’ve gotten her hurt—or worse, killed.

“Grace?” Daire prompted when she didn’t say anything.

“I won’t,” she said with a shake of her head. “I don’t know what I was thinking. I just saw them taking Aric and Kevin, and I reacted.”

“I don’t know what I would’ve done if something had happened to you.” Daire lifted his hand off hers so he could stroke his thumb over her cheek.

She used her free hand to grasp his, holding the calloused palm against her face. “I don’t want to keep ignoring whatever this is, Daire.”

He tried to retract his hand, but she held it firm. “I know you have to leave after the full moon.” She met his eyes and held his gaze. “I know you’re bound by your agreement, but…” She looked at her lap, then back at him. “If I don’t let myself fall for you, I don’t think I’ll ever forgive myself.”

“Grace,” he said, inching closer.

“I’d rather have something temporarily than nothing at all,” she said, leaning in to close the distance. She pressed her lips against his, inhaling when his mouth began to move against hers.

His hands snaked around her middle once again, tugging her, so she was straddling his waist. “I can only promise you until the full moon.” He pushed her hair back from the nape of her neck. “I want this, too… if you’re sure.”

She nodded at him before closing the distance once again. Their mouths melded together. His tongue swept out to trace along her lips. She moaned into his mouth while rocking her hips against his. His already hardening member rubbed against her center, creating a wonderful friction.

Part of her wondered if the short time she had with Daire would be enough. The other part just wanted to feel what it would be like in his capable hands. No man had ever looked at her the way Daire did. It was like she was the only person in the room. If all they had was a little over a week, then she would take what she could get.

Daire’s hands smoothed up and down her back until they slid under her butt. He shifted on the couch before standing. She locked her ankles around his back. Daire carried her through the house to the stairs. Grace nuzzled his neck while he ascended, taking them to the second bedroom and kicking the door shut with his foot.

Her fingers went to the buttons of his flannel. She’d never found flannel sexy before, not until she’d seen it on him. She unbuttoned each fastener and slid her hand inside the opening to feel his taut muscles rippling as he carried her to the bed.

He laid her down on the mattress and stared down at her. One of his hands went to her breast, cupping it against the fabric of her sweater. The other hand tugged at the fastener of her pants until the button popped open. His fingers slid her zipper down, and his hand slipped inside.

Grace moaned as he placed his palm against her center. His fingers pushed her panties aside and then pressed against her clit. She bucked her hips up, stifling a cry at the sheer feel of him.

He leaned forward and caught her lips again. She groaned into his mouth while he swirled his tongue over hers. Her own hand went to his jeans, releasing the button and easing its way inside. She paused, realizing he wasn’t wearing any underwear. A smile slid across her lips while her fingers tiptoed further down until they wrapped around his engorged cock.
